Looking for a unique and transformative experience? Join us for dance meditation on the beach! Dromana Beach Sunday 23rd of April 2:30-4PM
SO, WHAT IS DANCE MEDITATION?
Dance meditation is a potent practice that merges the physical movement of dance with the mental focus and introspection of meditation, creating a moving meditation that lets individuals connect with their inner selves through bodily expression. The beach, with its picturesque surroundings of the crashing waves and scenic landscape, provides an ideal location to establish a connection with oneself and nature. Dancing freely and expressively on the beach with the elements surrounding them - the sand and water - offers a tactile and grounding experience that can release tension and foster relaxation. Dance meditation cultivates a profound sense of presence, mindfulness, and awareness, encouraging the release of physical tension and emotional blockages, promoting feelings of liberation and happiness. It is not about perfecting movements but rather allowing oneself to move in a way that is expressive and free, fostering a connection with one's inner emotions and sentiments. This practice can be transformative, enabling individuals to establish a connection with their authentic selves, develop self-love and acceptance, and enhance their overall mental and physical wellbeing.
For the first 30 minutes, we will begin with a general guided warm-up session to loosen up our bodies and get familiar with the surroundings, which is essential for a safe playing experience later on. You will receive instructions as we progress.
Over the next 30 minutes, we will gradually move from structured movements to more creative and explorative ones. We'll walk around, roll on the sand, and connect with the earth.
For the next 20 minutes, we'll transition from individual exploration to group engagement. Together, we'll listen to nature and move along with others, building a communal connection with both nature and each other. This is where the session gets truly captivating.
Finally, we'll spend 10 minutes winding down by sitting or lying down, focusing on our intentions and bringing our attention back to ourselves.
This is not your typical exercise routine. You won't find loud music, fast-paced moves, or a focus on burning calories (though you certainly can if that's what you want).
Don’t expect a routine. There will be creative cues and inspirations but not much in terms of ‘put your hand here and feet there’.
You don't need any dance experience to participate.
You don't need anything special to join in. Wear something comfortable and durable that allows you to move freely. Bring water, a towel, and a snack if you like.
All you need is curiosity. Be curious about your body and the world around you.
See you on the Beach!
YOUR TEACHER
Siyao Zhang, grown up in Northeast China, spent her late adolescence in Singapore, studying and working as an engineer, now lives on a farm on the Mornington Peninsula. Siyao is certified Yoga teacher. She considers the biggest gift that the universe has given her is this body - not the strong, flexible, athletic kind, but a sensitive one. She often experiences anxiety and pain from unknown sources. And she is slowly learning to ‘listen’ to these sufferings from people, plants, animals and non-living beings around her. Dancing and meditating in nature are her secret way to heal, to come together with something bigger than herself. She wishes to share this moment with you.
Prana Yoga & Wellness acknowledges and pays respect to the ancestors, Elders and descendants of the Lands upon which we practice, the Boonwurrung people. We are mindful that within and without our premises, these lands always were and always will be Aboriginal Land.
